Today September 11, 2013 I made my first batch of butter.
I ran out of Grass Fed Unsalted Butter yesterday and panicked when I realized I didn’t have any extra left in the freezer.
Since butter is part of my morning coffee, and that cup of coffee is something I look forward to SO much, not having the butter for my coffee would potentially cause my morning to really suck.
I know I shouldn’t allow that to be the case, but hey, I love my morning coffee. And if I can’t have it the way I like it, I get really angry.
I really wanted to run out last night to the store to get some but there just wasn’t time. Well, there was time, but the girls would have to come with me and I wanted to chill with them at the house rather than take a trip to get butter and then come back and put them to bed.
Then I realized….I have Grass Fed Heavy Whipping Cream in the fridge! I asked Jodie to get me some over the weekend so I could make ice cream.
Fortunately I haven’t gotten around to the ice cream because now I can use it to make my own butter!
This was surprisingly exciting for me. Like, oddly so.
I mean seriously, who gets super excited about making their own butter??
Anyway, I don’t know exactly why, but making my own butter was so gratifying.
I was a little afraid I’d screw it up and end up pissed off but it actually went great.
And the end result? Delicious butter…..that I made with my own hands.
There’s just something about “making” something with your own hands.
Something about saying “Fuck it! Let’s do this!” even though you think you’re going to screw it up.
Anyway, it was kind of a highlight in my day.
I can’t wait to make more and learn more about butter making.
Maybe one day I’ll sell my own butter?
Or just make it for myself and enjoy real homemade food.
